Gravida 8: My Latest Pregnancy: Family Planning...Of Course!

Family Planning...Of Course!

After thirteen years since my last birth and two miscarriages, I find myself pregnant again. It's Fall of 2006. I can't believe the number of people who have said to me...TO ME...'OOPS! Did you plan this pregnancy?' Betsy Melancon

Actually, my plan is to dominate the world. The violent, the suicidal and the sterile will die off, but my decendants will be as numerous as the stars. I read a book called "Siblings Without Rivalry", so I'm hoping my decendants will get along better than Abraham's. My children and grandchildren will lead the world into a new era of peace, and I will be honored as the mother of them all. That's my plan, and people think I'm not ambitious! Plan...

Sean and Selina are in college, Nicole is a senior in high school, Theresa is a sophomore, and Dave is in the eighth grade. We're all excited about the possibility of a new baby, but at the same time, I won't believe it until I'm in the second trimester, and even then there's no guarantee.

I check for bleeding every time I go to the bathroom for the first three months. It's agonizing, 'I'm happy to be pregnant right now', I keep reassuring myself, and if I miscarry that will be okay too. I know I can live through that disappointment. I'm thrilled and terrified at the thought of having a baby, after all, I'm nearly 44 years old. I'm prepared for the fact that I'll probably miscarry, but still hopeful. I apply natural progestrone cream twice a day without fail. I ask my Priest to say a Blessing over me. The next time I see him, he gives me a prayer card of St. Gerard, the Patron of Mothers. I'm touched by his gesture. I figure it's in God's hands now, and I told Him as much.
