Student Midwives

“Each one, teach one.”

Student Midwives

Midwifery is an ancient art that has traditionally been passed down from generation to generation. In the U.S., Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) must participate in clinical experience under a registered preceptor in order to complete their education. Not only am I committed to providing exceptional client care, but I am also deeply invested in teaching and training the next generation of midwives. By hiring Tree of Life Midwifery, you too, are choosing to invest in the greater midwifery community and the education of future midwives. As a client of Tree of Life Midwifery, you will interact with students along your journey. Students will always be in direct supervision of Morgann Burres, LM CPM and you will never have a student provide care alone.

Deidra Wester, SM

Hello friends—I’m Deidra (dee-druh)! I am from right here in the desert and truly love calling it home. I have a few favorite names/titles but top of the list are certainly wife and mama. I married my childhood sweetheart and we still pinch ourselves in disbelief that we are living out our dreams of having our own little family. We have two sweet and wild babes, Roc and Rue and they keep us very sleepy but mostly full of joy!

Serving in the birthing community has been my most favorite thing I’ve ever done and the fact that I get to do it as my job is the icing on the cake! I am a DONA trained birth doula and Lamaze trained childbirth educator and the face behind Mother and Earth Doula Services. I consider it an honor to sit with women (and their families) as they transform in the miraculous, wildly vulnerable, primal and sacred journey of pregnancy and birth.

I’m so excited to be continuing this work in my pursuit to become a midwife.

Jessey Bird, SM

Hello!

I’m Jessey I consider myself a woman of many holistic lifestyle trades & a creative entrepreneur. Born and raised in the midwest, I am a Nebraska native and adventurously moved here in January 2023 with my beautiful family. I thoroughly enjoy learning and have directed my career towards birth work. This last year I dove into the field as a Doula, Lactation Educator and am a current Midwife Student. I value compassion, knowledge and intuition with life and for my clients. My hobbies are hanging out with my family and pets, trying something new, reading and enjoying the present moment.

Emily Doctor, SM

Hello, my name is Emily! I was born and raised in Texas. I’m new to Arizona, but it’s already starting to feel like home! I married my high school sweetheart, who I met when I was just 15 years old. We have been navigating life side by side ever since. We can’t believe how blessed we are to be where we are today.

We don’t have little ones of our own (yet!), but we do have two fur babies who definitely keep us on our toes.

My heart was called to birth work from the time I was a little girl. I’ve always had a deep love for babies, and knew early on that whatever path I chose in life would involved them. After years of supporting mothers and little ones as a nanny, stepping into Midwifery felt like the natural next chapter of my lifelong passion.

Now, as a student midwife, I have years of hands-on caregiving experience, deep respect for the birthing journey, and unwavering belief in the strength of women. Every step I take is rooted in the love I’ve always had for this work, and the honor of sharing these sacred moments as families grow.
